Hi there, I’m Amanda

Hi, I'm Amanda

I began my working career in the legal profession and studied law at the University of Westminster, London.  After a planned career break (full time parenting), I decided to return to work and follow a different path.  My teaching career started at St. Mary's C.E. Primary School, Northchurch, Hertfordshire.  In 2009, I joined Berkhamsted School, a leading co-educational independent day school, based in Hertfordshire where I spent the next 12 years working in Key Stage 2. Through continuing professional development and practice-based modules with The Open University, I developed my pedagogical skills and subject knowledge in mathematics, language and literacy, science, computing and ICT, in order to enhance and support children's learning.

During the school holidays, I was also employed by Berkhamsted Base Camp (part of the Berkhamsted Schools Group) teaching computer programming classes including Scratch, Python, HTML and JavaScript to 7-12 year-olds. In 2021, I left Berkhamsted School and started tutoring privately.

I have recently relocated to Cheshire and offer private English and maths tuition, both face-to-face and online, for children aged 7-12 in Knutsford and the surrounding areas.  In addition to core subject support, I specialise in preparing pupils for Grammar School and Independent School entrance exams, including CEM and GL style questions, and can provide guidance and support to help your child succeed in this process.

About

I understand that every child is unique and learns differently, so every lesson is bespoke to your child depending on their specific needs.

The benefits to you and your child

As a parent, it is only natural that you want the very best for your child.  Therefore, I provide regular, detailed feedback on their progress, so you

can share in your child's learning journey and celebrate their achievements.

My style of tutoring provides effective teaching and learning by fostering

positive relationships in order to build your child's confidence.  At the end

of the session, students are allowed time to reflect and review their work, and

identify how they can improve in the future.  The development of these skills empowers them to become agents of their own learning and inspires them

to be life-long learners.  Importantly, this also gives them the confidence and

self-esteem to flourish and succeed in our ever changing world.

“Mrs Stockwell is much more than a tutor.  She makes every child feel special, creates such a fun, nurturing and creative environment for learning, and structures every lesson with such passion and enthusiasm.  All three of my children have learnt so much from her and she has helped them particularly with their dyslexia-related learning challenges.  She keeps me informed at every step and goes above and beyond to find ways to ensure progression is aligned to each individual, and their school curriculum – I cannot thank her enough."
